...and into Your marvelous light...

My sister-in-law Aimee has a very large family with whom she is very close.

Her uncle passed away last weekend after a long, painful battle with cancer. My parents and I attended his funeral today. While it was indeed a somber affair (as funerals ought to be), it was also heartwarming to witness the intertwining chords between family members that will undoubtedly under-gird their collective grief and preserve their foundation.
There is never any shortage of hugs, kisses and warm words exchanged in their gatherings. One receives the sense that family gatherings are never treated as mere obligations, but as enthusiastic celebrations. Even when a member has been tragically removed from their presence, they gather to celebrate his life and speak openly about his eternal significance.

While we sat at the bereavement dinner afterward, I snapped this photo of Aimee (and Josh)'s nieces, Sofia and Maya.

They may be the cutest kids ever.
